El Pomar Foundation

El Pomar is a general purpose foundation committed to enhance, encourage and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado. Together Trustees and staff honor the legacy of Spencer and Julie Penrose through overseeing and carrying out El Pomar Foundation’s grant making as well as community stewardship and leadership development programs.

The two-year Fellowship program allows Fellows to obtain valuable learning opportunities through direct exposure to Colorado’s philanthropic and nonprofit arenas, targeted professional development, peer management, program oversight and connection with an engaged network of nearly 300 alumni.

Fellows focus 80% of their time on programmatic work and 20% of their time on professional development. As program directors and associates, Fellows oversee and execute the work of El Pomar’s leadership development, community stewardship and administrative programs. Each Fellow serves on multiple programs which require them to use and develop a core set of skills, including project management, nonprofit support, business writing; grant making support; event planning; communications; research, and more. Professional development opportunities include public speaking trainings; investment and finance classes; Excel, PowerPoint, and project management certification; leadership assessments and individual coaching sessions. A key aspect of the Fellowship is the cohort model, which allows each class of Fellows to learn, grow and develop as a community of young professionals.
