Several positions are available and will be recruited for on a continuing basis. Positions are paid experiential learning opportunities located off-campus at parks associated with the National Parks Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and others.
These positions report to the lead at the park where they are located, the PLIP coordinator, and Associate Dean of CEFNS. Positions are non-benefit eligible and subject to the availability of funding.
Northern Arizona University’s Public Lands Internship Program (PLIP) in the College of the Environment, Forestry, and Natural Resources (CEFNS) is seeking current students, alumni
and non-students interested in experiential learning opportunities positioned at state, regional, and national lands, parks, or facilities.
The PLIP provides high-impact opportunities to expand your knowledge of natural resources management. The successful candidate(s) will actively collaborate with colleagues and professionals permanently employed at the field experience location. Applicants will be expected to forge effective partnerships that help the affiliate location and the PLIP address the objectives of the
Specific skills required at various field locations may include GIS skills, geodata basing, knowledge of native and invasive species of plants and animals/wildlife, development of protection plans and monitoring human interactions and impacts on the land, monitoring current use, and planning for future opportunities pertaining to target shooting, camping, hunting, mountain biking, and OHV’s, providing programming to diverse audiences, developing thematic programs for elementary students and older pertaining to archeology, anthropology, and ecology. This person reports to the lead at the park and the PLIP coordinator and Associate Dean of CEFNS.

- Students and Alumni in an academic program at NAU that aligns with program outcomes and needs of the park or affiliate location.
- Prior experience related to natural resource management.
