The earlier you begin to focus on your career development, the better prepared you will be to make decisions and pursue the opportunities available to you. Good news: There are a variety of things you can do now to prepare for your future! Every class and experience will build your competencies, focus your interests and inform your goals. From individual career advising to career education tools and programs, FLC Career Services offers extensive resources to help you explore options and develop strategies for pursuing those goals. Get to know yourself: What do you enjoy? What are your strengths? Begin to identify your competencies, transferable skills, interests, values and personality preferences. Career and Internship Advising, Events, Career Fairs, and More
Programs such as career planning workshops, job shadowing opportunities, resume writing, mock interviews, and internship and job search strategies are offered. Career Services is a liaison between students and employers representing education, business, industry, government, and public service that seek to fulfill their hiring needs. Special events such as career fairs and industry receptions provide the opportunity to interact with employers and network with professionals. Handshake, Fort Lewis College’s online job posting system, provides access to part-time and full-time employment opportunities.

Student Employment
Student employment gives students a chance to gain experience, learn new skills, and develop valuable contacts. Student employment opportunities can be found on Handshake maintained by Career Services. Jobs can be posted by supervisors at Handshake for Employers. Approximately half of all student jobs are funded by work-study awards and half are funded by a college department’s budget (Institutional Employment). Student employment at Fort Lewis College is managed by Human Resources in partnership with Career Services, Skyhawk Station, the Financial Aid Office, and Payroll.
